Lemur Conservation

lemur.jpgLemurs are a species that are found nowhere else on earth. Unfortunately, deforestation has caused the mammal to become endangered. Conservation Fusion works to educate the community about the positive benefits of lemurs. Lemurs are not only losing their habitat, they are also seen as a food source in Madagascar.

In the Andasibe region of Madagascar, Conservation worked with MBP to reestabllish the critically endangered diademed sifaka and black and white ruffed lemur back into their natural habitat. Forest surveys, biomedical assessments, and identifying family groups for relocation were a critical element of this task. Today, Malagasy students from the MBP along with local field assistants monitor the lemurs daily which increases the protection for the lemurs while habituating the animals to enhance ecoturism.
